Make sure you also do the Dalaran cooking dailies - I got my cake recipe from the Dalaran reward bag, along with the usual Northern spices.

I've been doing the cooking daily in Dalaran almost every day, and got the same tidbit of advice from D's friend. Alas - no cake for me just yet. But I'm not giving up!
